WE ARE A TEAM
Lakeside Darkroom is now a team of three!
From now on, the project will be led and nurtured by Jake, Millie and Naroa — working together to grow Lakeside into an even stronger, more supportive and creative space.
This new chapter marks a fresh way of building up our community: with shared energy, positivity and care for what makes Lakeside unique. We’re looking forward to continuing to create a safe, inspiring and collaborative environment where analogue photography can truly thrive.
Thank you for being part of our journey — it means the world to us. The best is yet to come.
With warmth,
Jake, Millie & Naroa

WHO WE ARE
Lakeside Darkroom (LKSD) is a Community Interest Company (CIC) with a strong feminist ethos, dedicated to analogue photography. Founded in August 2022, LKSD is more than just a darkroom—it’s a space where creativity, experimentation, and community come together.
Rooted in collaboration and the freedom to make mistakes, we believe that learning in photography, as in life, is about learning and playing with the rules when necessary. As Berenice Abbott said: “When there is a good reason for breaking a rule, do not hesitate to do so.”
Our mission is to create a welcoming and supportive environment where practitioners of all levels and genders can explore analogue photography without barriers. As a feminist organisation, we champion openness, inclusivity, love, and intergenerational dialogue while actively rejecting racism, machoism, colonialism, and all forms of discrimination.
At LKSD, analogue photography is more than a medium—it’s a tool for connection, empowerment, and creative resistance. Join us to develop your practice in a space where you can slow down, experiment, and grow within a truly supportive community.
Feminism is about advocating for the equal rights and opportunities of all genders. It's rooted in the belief that everyone, regardless of gender, should have the same rights, opportunities, and freedoms. Inclusivity is fundamental and differences are celebrated. Feminism aims to have all voices heard, regardless of gender, race, age, socioeconomic status, mental or physical ability, sexual identity or religion.
Intersectional feminism acknowledges the complex interplay between different forms of discrimination and oppression. Intersectionality recognises that people may experience multiple layers of marginalisation and aims to address these intersecting inequalities in a holistic manner. Equality aims to leave no one behind, to challenge systems of inequality to create a more equitable society for all.
